A normal knee replacement and a robotic knee replacement are similar. Your surgeon replaces the damaged knee tissue with an artificial joint after eliminating the damaged tissue. The difference is that a robotic arm or other handheld robotic equipment assists in carrying it out (depending on the robotic system used for your surgery).
Similarly, your surgeon replaces the damaged hip tissue with an artificial joint after removing the damaged tissue. The distinction is that a robotic arm is used to assist.
One of the most common misconceptions about robotic surgery is that the surgery is entirely robotic, i.e., completely done by robots. This is not true; a robotic arm assists in the treatment, along with the Orthopaedic surgeon. The robotic arm’s assits the surgeon in performing the surgery with more accuracy.

Well that is a debatable issue. Conventional knee replacement has stood the test of time and has delievered 98-99% success rate for the last 30 years. A well done knee replacement is a combination of skills judgement and experience. Robotic knee replacement was introduced in India around 2017. Early results suggest that the initial pain relief and early recovery is better however in terms of long term results the robot is yet to prove itself. The limited literature on long term results fails to show any significant advantage.

Yes . However currently only the MAKO robotic system from Stryker has the option. The other robots as on date yet do not have that option. But again long term benefit is questionable
